USEFUL GUIDES
It is important to know that Mousourakis Funeral Homes undertake the essential obligation to stand by the family not only by taking care of the ceremony but also of the many of the formalities required at times like this.
USEFUL GUIDES
In the event the death occurs at home, after the doctor confirms it, call or visit the Funeral Home. It will relieve you from many procedures and pointless moves. The Funeral Home will verify the accuracy of the death certificate so that you will not have any problems later due to wrong details, it will arrange the care for the remains and it will inform you on what you have to do. In the event that your loved one passes away at home, you can keep them there or instruct the Funeral Home’s officials to take them to the Cemetery. If you choose the latter you can visit the cemetery after the settlement and stay as long as you wish from sunrise to sunset. After sunset, cemeteries are closed and visits are forbidden. Your loved one is kept in the mortuary and is guarded throughout the day. According to state law, burial is permitted 12 hours after death. After this 12-hour period, the relatives can order the contractor to perform the burial whenever they wish as long as there is no risk of the body starting to decompose. In such cases when relatives are waiting for people visiting from abroad and the remains are to remain for over 24 hours, it would be advisable to ask for the body to be kept in a refrigerator.
In the event of the death occurring in the hospital or a clinic etc. relatives are required to have the deceased’s identification card in order to hand it over to the institution’s physician for the preparation of the death certificate, as well as the deceased’s clothes to be delivered to the funeral home. Note: Very often in these institutions at the time of the tragic event various people unfortunately intervene and offer to help the family by urging them to bring clothes to dress the deceased in order for them not to freeze etc., aiming to create a climate of confusion for obvious reasons. In this case, we advise you to remain calm and when you feel better you should: contact the doctor regarding the death certificate and then contact the funeral home of your choice
In the above case immediately call the funeral home to relieve you of the extra care required by law, such as calling the police, the forensic services, the coroner, etc. Note: In the above cases almost always after the funeral home takes care of the proceedings required by law, the deceased must be transferred to the morgue for an autopsy and the issuance of a certificate of causes of death by a coroner, whose report cannot be challenged. It is important to note that in the case of sudden death, an autopsy must be performed because after the burial there are often litigations (car accidents) with insurance companies, which require the presentation of a coroner’s report rather than just a doctor’s medical report. If a physician is present during the accident or sudden death and wants to issue a report, we do not recommend it, even in this case you should prefer the autopsy, after which the funeral home will take care of the appearance of the deceased. We also advise you in these cases that you never ask for the body to be transferred home but only to the mortuary.
In the above case, call the funeral home and request anything that you want, a coffin, care of the body, etc. and then transportation where you want. You can choose between these options:
- 1st case: Call the funeral home and ask them to provide a coffin and care for the body and then to transport it with a special closed car or a hearse wherever you want and then you can take care of the rest up until burial according to the customs of your place.
- 2nd case: Call the funeral home and assign them everything. That is, care for the body, transporting it wherever you want and handling the entire ceremony, without you having to do anything else.
